Google Docs users have long been able to add page numbers when printing documents or saving as a pdf. However, the ability to add a page number and count directly into a document – so that they could be seen on screen – was missing, until now.

Users can now add page numbers and a page count to documents.

Page count will display the total number of pages in your document. To insert a page number and count into a header or footer, for example “Page 2 of 10”, go to Insert > Page number, manually type “of” and then choose Insert > Page count.
